Santa Clarita Concerts In The Park Series Cancelled For 2020

Officials with the City of Santa Clarita have cancelled the annual Concerts in the Park series due to ongoing public health concerns presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials announced the cancelation in a statement released Monday morning.

“Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and in accordance with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s Safer at Home order, the City of Santa Clarita has cancelled the 2020 Concerts in the Park series,” the statement reads.

The annual series consists of around eight free concerts that take place at Central Park in Saugus, and were typically scheduled for Saturday nights in July and August. Based on previous years, the first show would have taken place either this coming Saturday or the following.

“Although progress continues with California Governor Gavin Newsom’s ‘Resilience Roadmap’ and the County’s ‘Roadmap to Recovery,’ higher-risk activities where more frequent and prolonged person-to-person contact is likely to occur, such as Concerts in the Park, are not permitted,” Monday’s statement continues. “Concerts in the Park has been a community staple in Santa Clarita since 1989 and routinely draws thousands of attendees to Central Park each week in the summer.”

Although the series will no longer take place in 2020, the Art’s and Events division with the City of Santa Clarita is continuing to “develop and implement alternative programs and events for residents to enjoy.”

“The City’s Recreation and Community Services Department also recently launched the Virtual Rec Center, which offers specialty classes and resources for children, adults and seniors,” Monday’s statement reads. “The City looks forward to providing community events while following all public health guidelines in the near future.”

Residents can visit the Virtual Rec Center online here.

  1. What’s next? Some moron decreeing that there’s no singing in church? Haha… Naaaah, we’re safe singing to our Creator….uhh, right?

  2. What are you trying to say?

  3. Sorry, I haven’t had much of a sense of humor lately. Depressing news on ALL media outlets. COVID is not a made-up illness, election year or not. 🙁 Thank goodness for us Republicans (and there are MANY)who have realized that Trump will further damage our country if we give him 4 more years.

  4. Are you willing to learn anything new? You can’t seriously think that Trump is a victim here (snowflake).

  5. There was once a time when calling oneself a Republican could include a range of thought,, from moderate to more extreme conservatism. Now, you get accused of not being the right kind of Republican if you don’t follow Trump’s ideology completely. That is what is turning people off.

  6. I want the US Constitution, as ratified by the Several States in September 1787, to be read correctly, understood thoroughly, and only those powers given therein to the various governments (enumerated) be only those they wield. Smaller government, BIGGER Citizen.

What does that make me, Ann????

    • Sounds like you favor a Democracy with checks and balances, as do many Americans. Are you a Libertarian? Republican? Are you trying to prove something here?
My point was that there seems to be hatred toward Republicans that don’t fully agree with the president, like they aren’t authentic. Maybe you don’t agree!

  7. Thanks Brian, well said, although this thread started out as an article about Santa Clarita Concerts In The Park Series Cancelled For 2020, you will find that there are several folks on this KHTS forum that find the need to comment regardless of the topic to go after Republicans/Trump, right or wrong, and I mean regardless of the topic.
