Santa Clarita Fire Stations Open Doors To Public For Fire Service Day

Firefighters in Santa Clarita allowed residents to explore their fire stations Saturday as part of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s annual Fire Service Day.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, people could visit Santa Clarita’s fire stations for the first Fire Service Day in two years after COVID-related cancellations.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come in, meet us and see the equipment,” said Nick Mandell, a firefighter and paramedic based at Los Angeles County Fire Station 124 in Stevenson Ranch. “It’s just a way for us to introduce ourselves to the public and answer any questions that people might have.”

During the event, residents were able to meet local firefighters, get tours around the station and even climb into fire trucks.

The event was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m excited that COVID seems to have come to an end,” Mandell said. “Not only were we not having fire service… they were not letting us be in the same room with each other or share meals.”

Firefighters encouraged people to come into stations and get to know the first responders serving their area.

“People see us driving down the street and hopefully not many other times,” Mandell said. “This gives the public the opportunity to come and talk to us here.”
