Santa Clarita Girl To Compete On Masterchef Junior

Santa Clarita resident Malia Brauer is scheduled to make her television debut in season seven of MasterChef Junior next month.

The 11-year-old from Newhall is one of 24 young chefs set to be featured in the new season.

The competition includes 12 boys and 12 girls between the ages of 8 and 13 facing off in a series of challenges showcasing their culinary abilities.

The judges’ panel is comprised of award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay, pastry chef Christina Tosi and chef and restaurateur Aarón Sánchez.

The trio of judges evaluates each challenge to determine which chefs will advance to the next round until only one contestant remains to take home the trophy, the $100,000 prize and the honor of being named “America’s Next MasterChef Junior.”

Malia’s supporters hope the show presents an opportunity for her to showcase her signature dish, a tuna and cucumber roll with garlic and soy sautéed broccolini.

The challenges revealed ahead of the new season’s debut include attending and preparing a meal for 51 circus performers, pulling a live lobster out of a tank and having 60 minutes to make a mind-blowing dish.

They will also have to compete to see which team can first roll out a perfect sheet of pasta to a length of 24 feet and power through the fan-favorite restaurant takeover challenge.

Season seven of MasterChef Junior was originally scheduled to premiere on Feb. 5, but due to the State of the Union Address, it is now scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 at 8 p.m on FOX.
