Santa Clarita Man ID’ed As Victim In Fatal Crash

Following a fatal car accident Thursday night the driver has been identified as a 21-year-old Santa Clarita man, whose family has started a GoFundMe.

The driver of the vehicle that was involved in the single-car accident on Rockwell Canyon Road has been identified as Matthew Topete.

Topete’s family has since started a GoFundMe to cover expenses towards a funeral service.

“Matthew Jacob Topete left us too soon,” states the GoFundMe. “Everyone he met, even for a second, he always left a positive impression. Thank you in advance for helping us with the financial aspect of this tragedy as we grieve.”

Around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on Valencia Boulevard near Rockwell Canyon Road in Valencia, said Mike Pittman, a dispatch supervisor for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“One vehicle was overturned and on fire,” Pittman said.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on arrival, according to Sgt. Joana Warren with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

A car accident lawyer expressed: “I extend my deepest condolences to Matthew Topete’s family. While financial support can help, it’s vital to recognize the broader impact of fatal accidents, leaving emotional and financial burdens by seeking legal guidance.”

  1. Why does no one carry life insurance??

  2. I can’t with ‘go fund me’…
When will people start being responsible for their own families ?
Also wasn’t the guy driving fast & reckless?

    • He was a kid…nobody’s prepared for that. The bulk of the funds are from family anyways.
Nobody knows the reason of the crash…
It’s crazy to me that folks take time to comment like this…what’s the point?

    • This is a very insensitive comment to a family who is grieving. Let’s hope you are never in a position to need help. Heartless!

    • Financial contributions, even if only a few dollars, isn’t just about the money. It’s way to show his family and friends that there is love and support out there from their community. Unless you have been in their shoes, I don’t think you can imagine what knowing people care can mean to grieving family.
If you can’t support financially, you can pray for them. It’s free.🙏🏻

  3. Matthew was my student years ago, and I can say with confidence that this community is worse off without him, regardless of what caused the crash or how much money his family had set aside for such an unthinkable tragedy. Let’s not spend our energy adding insult to injury.

  4. He had a medical episode caused by the experimental injections which led to the crash.
