Spotlight Bites: Okamoto Kitchen Brings Japanese Comfort Food To Santa Clarita

On the second episode of Spotlight Bites, KHTS’ feature centered on local dining, we experience authentic Japanese cuisine with Okamoto Kitchen.

Okamoto Kitchen is a Southern California food truck that was founded in 2014 by Chef Chizuru and Gerald Abraham, and since then it has done its part to bring the joys of Japanese comfort food to Santa Clarita.

Chizuru and Gerald are top-notch professionals that wanted to create a unique experience that wasn’t common with other food trucks. The brightly colored truck can be seen at anime conventions, special events, and many different locations around Los Angeles. The business also offers private catering.

Okamoto Kitchen prides itself on quality Japanese comfort food, and their main goal is to introduce Americans to lesser-known Japanese dishes.

Their menu is organized into two categories: Small Bites, which are smaller food portions for snacking on-the-go, and Big Bites for dinner-sized portions. Some of their dishes include Japan Fried Chicken, Spicy Tuna Stacks, Sushi Burritos, and many mouth-watering burgers and sandwiches.

What keeps Okamoto fans coming back for more is the anime lore inspired by the truck. The main character is a girl named Haru Umesaki who runs the truck with her mentor, Chef Chizuru. This is why their faces can be seen on the truck, merchandise and Okamoto social media pages.

The Okamoto team is currently working on a fully animated Japanese cartoon influenced by the truck and its characters. The intro to this series has already been posted on Okamoto’s YouTube channel, and it features Cristina Vee as the voice of Haru, animated sequences by Studio Engi, and an entire team of illustrators and writers.

To try Okamoto’s gourmet cuisine, check out their website at OkamotoKitchen.com to see a full list of stops around L.A. This includes its stop in Santa Clarita every three weeks at 23033 Lyons Avenue Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Be sure to check the Twitter page and join their email list for updates, as their schedule can change.

Visit the Okamoto Kitchen website to experience a taste of gourmet Japanese comfort food.

  1. I saw the food trucks and many people congregating in the parking lot on Valencia Blvd and Bouquet. This is ok but outdoor dining by our local restaurants is not. This was a massive crowd of people in one spot. Allowing these food truck gatherings is very hypocritical and a slap in our community restaurants’ face. Let’s think about what you are allowing. Very disappointed in our community leaders that allowed this.

  2. If Newsom, Garshity, Mr. Kuehl, Pelosi, etc. can do it, so can they! Typical hypocrisy of Liberals ruing our world!

  3. Whatever food truck is one of the most popular food business right now. I think two important reasons for this popularity. One thing is food truck is easy going to get food. Another thing is the cheap price.
