On Tuesday, Hunter Greene, a Stevenson Ranch native signed a 6-year contract extension through 2028 with the Cincinnati Reds.
On Tuesday, Greene signed a six-year, $53 million contract extension.
“My family’s here — my pops and mom, my brother and sister,” said Greene in a MLB article. “Thank you, guys. Thanks for all the support. I didn’t want to break down, but you guys have been amazing. The game is really difficult. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. So they’ve been here, obviously, from Day 1.”
The contract is set to begin this season and is the largest pre-arbitration the Reds have given out.
Greene was drafted by the Reds with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft out of Notre Dame High School located in Sherman Oaks.
Greene is famous for his overpowering fast ball and currently holds the record for pitches that reach triple-digit velocity in a single game.
Greene was the first Reds starting pitcher to start Opening Day at the age of 23.
