In a recent study, three main colored swimsuits for children have been determined to be the “most visible” while underwater.
While many children’s bathing suits are designed with reflective and bright colors in mind, three main colors have been found to be the “most visible” while a child is underwater in a pool or open water environment, according to a study conducted by Alive Solutions.
The three swimsuit colors that are the most visible in open water and the pool are:
- Bright orange
- Yellow
- Lime green
However, any neon-colored bathing suits that are bright and contrasting are best for high visibility, according to Alive Solutions.

Parental supervision should always be present when children are in, on or around any type of body of water. Drowning is one of the leading causes of childhood accidental death under the age of 5 years old in the Western States, according to the Academy Swim Club.
Academy Swim Club also lists their mandatory safety tips for drowning prevention:
- Continuous Supervision – Never leave your child unattended around any body of water for any reason – this is the BEST way to prevent drownings.
- Fence Your Pool and Spa – Fences and approved safety latches help to buy time if a child is left unattended for a short period of time.
- Swimming Lessons – Swimming lessons will buy time if a child breaks through the primary “layers of protection”
- CPR & First Aid – Know CPR and First Aid if supervision and layers of protection are breached. This knowledge is also helpful in many other emergency situations.
Academy Swim Club has been a trusted name in the Santa Clarita Valley for swimming lessons for children and adults of all ages and skill levels. Academy Swim Club’s goal is to help create a ‘drowning-free’ world and to have every child a swimmer by age 3.
