Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony To Be Hosted By Eternal Valley Memorial Park

The Memorial Day ceremony that is traditionally held at the Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary has been canceled, however, event organizers are planning a virtual event, officials said Tuesday.

Due to the “Safer at Home” order still in effect, this year’s Memorial Day event is expected to be replaced by a small ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25, according to the Santa Clarita Valley’s Memorial Day Committee.

The general public will not be invited to attend this abbreviated ceremony, however, organizers are looking forward to honoring those who have fallen and ask that you join the ceremony on this Memorial Day via live stream on KHTS, as the country pauses and remembers those that gave all.

“This coronavirus has stalled how we normally celebrate Memorial Day, it is sad but we cannot let Memorial Day pass without honoring our fallen heroes,” said Bill Reynolds, KHTS director of veteran affairs.

During the virtual ceremony, newly elected Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita is expected to speak, according to event organizers.

In addition to Garcia speaking, five kids from one family, who are students at Trinity Christian School, are expected to read all of the names of deceased veterans on the memorial wall at Eternal Valley, accompanied by a bugler from trinity, Aiden Leigh.

During the virtual ceremony, Reynolds is set to be honoring one of committee members who passed away, we with a wreath from Charmaine’s florist, according to officials.
“I would urge our community to dial into our ceremony on Memorial Day,” Reynolds said. “It’s one of the most important days of the year for our gold star families and our combat veterans. Because it is the day we remember our comrades we lost in combat, its especially meaningful for me because of all of the friends I’ve lost.”

For Santa Clarita residents who are not able to watch the live stream on Monday morning on the KHTS Facebook page, SCVTV is set to rerun the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to officials.

  1. Yea, because the vets in their 70’s and 80’s are definitely going to be able to figure that out. Another classless move to save face during a nationwide overreaction. This is not showing respect, this is showing cowardice.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
