13 Additional Santa Clarita Valley Coronavirus Cases Reported, 1,193 In L.A. County

13 additional Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases have been reported Thursday as well as 1,193 new cases across Los Angeles County, officials said.

The total number of cases in the Santa Clarita Valley is now 5,364 with the Los Angeles County total reaching 244,999, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The department is highlighting the importance of worker protections and reporting workplace outbreaks. Supporting worksites experiencing outbreaks are a crucial part of slowing the spread of COIVD-19 and protecting the health of communities.

In July, the County experienced sharp increases in cases, hospitalizations and deaths due to the reopening of many sectors and holiday-related activities. Not surprisingly, this led to increases in outbreaks at workplaces, which spiked the week of July 13, nine days after Independence Day on July 4, according to public health.

There are currently 1,062 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 30 percent of those patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), according to the department,

Testing results are available for over 2,332,000 individuals as of Thursday, with a positivity rate of 10 percent, according to public health officials.

As of Thursday, Los Angeles County remains in Tier 1 of the state’s coronavirus criteria, the highest, most restrictive category.

61 additional deaths have been reported within the county Thursday, for a total of 5,932 recorded people who have died due to coronavirus in Los Angeles County since March.

92 percent of those who died due to COVID-19 had an underlying health condition, according to public health officials.

As of Thursday, a total of 5,364 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. This is an increase of 14 compared to Tuesday. These include:

  • 3,034 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 118 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,907 in Castaic*
  • 27 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 155 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 41 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 63 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Six in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • Six in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Six in unincorporated Sand Canyon

*As of Wednesday, Sept 2, officials had recorded 1,323 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 496 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 62 cumulative cases have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 25 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Wednesday, Sept. 2, approximately 34.0 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 2, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 6,951 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 799 have tested positive, and 19 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 10 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 238 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody. This is a decrease of one hospitalized patient since the previous Wednesday.

  1. Well the good news is that this number would move SCV ‘up’ to the red level from purple but the bad news is, we are locked in with the entire County and it has to be for multiple weeks so that will not happen. For those who want this to be the new normal, Dictator Newsome has unilaterally granted your wish.
