15 additional coronavirus cases have been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 1,051 new cases reported across Los Angeles County Thursday afternoon.
The total number of cases confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley now stands at 2,778 while the L.A. County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 78,227 as of Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH)
Public Health officials noted case numbers are usually higher midweek due to a testing backlog from over the weekend.
As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 2,778 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:
- 930 in the City of Santa Clarita
- 39 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
- 1,724 in Castaic*
- Five in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
- 43 in Stevenson Ranch
- 12 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
- 23 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
- One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
- One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
*As of Wednesday, June 17, officials had recorded 1,312 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 486 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.
Additionally, nine cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 18 in Acton.
The Department of Public Health has redistributed cases among several areas of Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing a reduction in reported cases in Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch
As of Wednesday, Henry Mayo has conducted 2,343 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 249 have tested positive. 77 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to the hospital.
Some patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.
There are seven patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 94 patients have been discharged, according to a spokesperson.
While eight patients are currently being treated a total of 84 total patients have recovered and been released since the pandemic began earlier this year.
Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department
Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.
Case numbers are usually higher midweek due to a testing backlog from over the weekend, however, the new case rate may also be slowing due to the closure of testing sites as well as the county-wide curfew due to protests which has limited availability of COVID-19 testing.
36 new deaths were reported Thursday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 3,027 in Los Angeles County, according to public health officials.
A majority of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to public health, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.

KHTS Radio Santa Clarita Radio – Santa Clarita News
Increase in testing would show increase in results. The inmates in Pitchess are not dropping like flies, with (allegedly) testing positive with half the inmates. Information doesn’t add up to the theories and projections.
Agreed, Shawna. Also here in our own Henry Mayo, there are only a handful of Covid patients, 6 at last count, and the hospital is only at 40% capacity. 35 RNs have been laid off and 59 other hospital workers, as well as the complete MedSurge 5 has been shut down. The news isn’t reporting this.
The news isn’t reporting a lot of information that is pertinent. Too many people asleep at the wheel and trusting a dirty politician that has no intentions of getting our state back up and running. Unemployment is out of control. Basic medical care has slowed because of fear and our family dentist said so many patients have lost their insurance and they’ve seen a large decrease in dental care We need new leadership. I’m no longer confident in a Democrat.
Although I give credit to the news team at KHTS for trying to obtain better information on the numbers coming out of Pitchess, etc. – If you take the current numbers for the jail complex and subtract it from Castaic, they are now a negative 74. (1798 – 1724 = negative 74).
The county health department’s diaper is sooo dirty from all of the inaccurate numbers. Who really knows the actual number of confirmed cases within the City of Santa Clarita? If Castaic is now negative. and poor little Val Verde’s case numbers goes up and down like a worn-out yo-yo, who can but help understand why residents are upset due to the inaccurate reporting.
City of Santa Clarita leadership must have a sit-down meeting (via Webex) with the dirty diaper health department and get the numbers corrected once and for all.
Thank you to KHTS, the news team and the Goldman’s for at least attempting to bring factual reporting to the continued incorrect reporting of cases as given by county health department bureaucrats.
