Santa Clarita Celebrates Plum Canyon Park Opening With Ribbon Cutting

The City of Santa Clarita celebrated the grand opening of Plum Canyon Park Thursday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the City’s 35th park, which is now partially open due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Mayor Cameron Smyth, joined by council members and park commissioners, hosted the event in front of the park’s playground where he thanked the developers who contributed to the production of Santa Clarita’s newest park and described the various amenities that the park offers.

“I am excited to say that this is now the 35th park in Santa Clarita, almost one park for each year of our cityhood,” said Mayor Smyth during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Perched between the new Plum Canyon and Skyline Ranch residential communities along Skyline Ranch Road, Plum Canyon Park is a part of the 3,118 acres of land that were annexed to the City of Santa Clarita in 2018.

The 7.4 acres of the park is comprised of a large playground area with slides and a merry-go-round, baseball court, basketball court, walkways, various seating areas, public restrooms, two separate parking lots and a trailhead at the far end of the park that displays a view of the valley.

Featuring additional fitness zones and lounging areas for the public to enjoy, the Plum Canyon Park has generated much excitement upon its arrival, yet is scheduled to remain closed due to county health restrictions.

“Before we can plan any games or let the kids run loose on the play structure, we do need to clarify some of the orders by the County Health Department,” said Smyth. “Unfortunately the park will remain closed until the county lifts those orders.”

At this time, visitors may take advantage of the walkways and amazing views of the valley, however, the playground, baseball field, basketball court and other fitness areas will remain closed until Los Angeles County coronavirus restrictions are lifted, according to the City.

  1. Lovely but the parks are still closed until next phase or cure or vaccine.

  2. This will be wonderful when and if we ever find a cure for Corona virus. Parks and pools are not opening even though heat and chlorine have shown it doesn’t survive in.
