2,571 Additional Coronavirus Cases Reported In L.A. County, 18 Additional Deaths

An additional 2,571 Los Angeles County coronavirus cases and 18 additional deaths were confirmed Monday, officials said.

The number of Los Angeles County coronavirus cases now stands at 85,942, according to Dr. Barbra Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

“Today marks the third day in a week that we have reported 2,000 or more cases of COVID-19. And while some of the increases are due to test reporting issues, it is clear that much of the increase represents more community transmission,” Ferrer said. “Continuing to slow the spread of COVID-19 will not be possible without a renewed commitment by all of us to take care of each other by wearing cloth face coverings, keeping our distance, and avoiding crowds.”

Over 960,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted across Los Angeles County, with about 8 percent testing positive for the virus, according to Ferrer.

However, she noted previously that 86 percent of people who tested positive were asymptomatic, underlining the need for social distancing and other measures in order to prevent spread to others.

Approximately 10 percent of all people who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, of those 1,453 are currently hospitalized, according to public health officials.

18 new deaths were reported Monday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 3,137 in Los Angeles County, according to Ferrer.

About 94 percent of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to Ferrer, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.

The percentage has stayed “consistent” through the pandemic, according to Public Health officials.
