At Least 194 Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Santa Clarita Valley, 25 Hospitalized

At least 194 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed within the Santa Clarita Valley as of Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 157 confirmed cases in the city of Santa Clarita, nine in Castaic, 11 in Stevenson Ranch and 14 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The numbers for the unincorporated portions of Valencia, Saugus and Bouquet Canyon, as well as nearby Agua Dulce and Acton, have been “suppressed,” meaning there are between one and four confirmed cases for each community, according to public health officials.

Previously, Acton had reported 5 cases, but the number has been suppressed as of Tuesday.

This is done to protect patient privacy. Once these locations have five or more confirmed cases, the numbers are expected to be included, according to a public health spokesperson.

There were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the unincorporated portions of Newhall as of Tuesday afternoon.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has administered a total of 447 tests as of Tuesday, 358 of which have returned negative, and 87 of which have returned positive, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

A total of 25 patients are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to Henry Mayo officials.

The patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care, without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.

Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Public health officials are not releasing death or recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

A Santa Clarita testing center opened Wednesday at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

This site is one of several that are up and running around the county, and the first in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Testing is set to run from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., seven days per week, according to the college.

The Santa Clarita coronavirus testing site is expected to continue at least until June, according to the County.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.

  1. People infected with the virus walk among us, many not knowing they have it. The enemy is invisible, hiding in every race and ethnic group. Best not only to treat everyone as your brother or sister but to consider them also to be infected. You too may be infected. Since the virus is such a tricky bastard we cannot know for certain, without testing, who has it. Please stay vigilant and stay home for us all.

If you have not already done so, you may want to drop by the Johns Hopkins website. All the current stats are there in an easy read. But prepare to be shocked, or not, when you see the the US not only leads the world in confirmed cases but has more than the next five countries combined. Why is the ‘greatest country’ in the world at this tragic point?

    • To put it in perspective, you need to think about how truly vast the U.S. is. For example, the U.K. is about the same size as California. So when we’re looking at stats from Europe and comparing them with the U.S., it’s not an equitable comparison.

    • LOL, do I have to tell you?! Starts at the top!

    • Get off the TV Denny. Stop believing everything the media is telling you and do some logical research to answer your own question

      • Hi Lauren,
You are right about getting off the TV; that’s something I’ve urged for weeks during this crisis, same for doing research; something I’ve also been doing. What do you think the Johns Hopkins site is about? Did you look at it?
As far as the answer to my question, that was meant for the readers to answer. I already know the answer and so does Lisa.
As a suggestion., don’t bite the hand reaching out to you.
        Be well, stay safe.

    • We have the highest infection rate b/c of two things: we have about 328+ million people in the U.S. and China lies about their numbers.

    • Your silver lining (dark humour follows): epidemiologists suggest viruses taper off once 30% to 45% of the population has had it (instead of vaccinations). We are the closest to getting there.

  2. I agree with you Denny about the known infected. We all must be careful to take care. The whole world will never be the same the is now before Covid and after Covid. I will not be going to public places without being protected even if they find a vaccination. I will continue to practice social dictating just as I’ve always done.
