At Least 27 Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases Reported

There are at least 27 Santa Clarita coronavirus, COVID-19, cases reported as of Friday, officials said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has changed its classification for the areas within the Santa Clarita Valley with coronavirus cases. There are 24 cases within the City of Santa Clarita and three in Castaic, according to a release from the agency.

Case numbers for unincorporated areas of Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch have been “suppressed,” meaning there are between one and four confirmed cases for each community, according to the Department of Public Health.

This is done to protect patient privacy. Once these locations have five or more confirmed cases, the numbers are expected to be included, according to a public health spokesperson.

Officials with Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital confirmed there have been no additional positive coronavirus tests as of Friday afternoon with dozens of tests still being processed, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There have been 180 coronavirus tests conducted at Henry Mayo, with 78 tests still being processed as of Friday afternoon.

Out of the 102 tests that have been completed, 89 are negative, according to Moody.

Not all of the Santa Clarita coronavirus cases have been confirmed at Henry Mayo, according to public health officials, other cases have been confirmed at other local medical centers.

The 27 Santa Clarita coronavirus cases join the over 1,400 cases countywide, according to the Department of Public Health.

“In less than a week, we have gone from 409 to we have more than tripled in the number in L.A. County this increase reflects improved access to testing. We also have to assume these numbers the very real act we have a lot more infected in the county,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, the director of public health.

L.A. County health officials are issuing an order that requires a 14-day self-isolation of any person who tests positive for COVID-19, or is presumed by their physician or clinician to be positive for COVID-19, and also orders the quarantine of all close contacts, including household members and caregivers

Due to privacy laws, the names and exact locations of the coronavirus patients have not been released.

  1. Thank you for the numbers of tested, confirmed and still outstanding!

  2. Any info on where we can get tested here in the SCV?
How about commandeering a McDonald’s for drive-thru testing.
Of course, being tested will only reveal your past; you can still catch it tomorrow.

    Observation:
I’ve seen most grocery store employees wearing gloves but not many wearing masks.
This seems to make no sense since they are in close contact with customers for hours at a time.
Be aware that everything you buy is handled by them at check out with those dirty, perhaps contaminated, gloves.

    • Also keep in mind that those employees are putting themselves at risk by being there to stock, answer questions, ring up and bag your groceries. Imho they are way more at risk then we are, so let’s be appreciative of all that they do and if we must go to the market, Trader Joe’s, Target, Walmart, etc., do your best to give employees the respect of honoring social distancing. As for not wearing masks, if hospital employees are having a difficult time finding them, why would you condemn market employees for not wearing one?! We must be responsible for ourselves and our loved ones which does mean washing hands, wiping down packaging, and washing fruit and vegetables well. Rant over.

      • Great rant! Everyone should heed that!

      • That was my point, Shana, the virus is contagious for everyone. Store employees spend way more time than we in what I consider to be the most dangerous current activity… going to the store! It was an observation, not a condemnation and perhaps a wake up to anyone giving it thought.

      • Appreciating their hard work has nothing to do with criticizing low level of hygiene and its influence to all the customers that they meet. Don’t connect your emotion to the reality. Corona virus (and similar virus too) is airborne spread so it completely makes sense to wear masks. It does not only protects themselves but also everyone they meet during the day. It’s life – Abandon or overcome the bad social concept of wearing masks, wearing masks do not mean they are sick or hiding something, it’s for the mutual protection! Washing hands are most important but wearing masks is also important IF we have to get close to each other such as lining up to check out in the grocery store. What if you get corona virus because they were not informed to wear masks? We should wear masks too. Nothing matters more than our health.

      • Your reply to Denny N…was right on! Instead of criticism of these employees who risk a whole lot by selling you food, etc. whether. it be in grocery stores, or drive-throughs, et al…thank them for doing their job!

    • How about the McDonald’s at Walmart in Stevenson Ranch? Even though that McDonald’s
doesn’t have a drive-thru – they have plenty of open space since they abruptly closed down the other day.

Even the Coco’s on The Old Road which is also closed would be a great space used as a walk-in test facility – contained from any other business and/or activity.

  3. All good advice. Thanks for keep us informed.

  4. Our employee is sick along with his wife and kids. He was told to quarantine. He couldn’t get a test. These numbers are BS. In a few days, I will have it along with my husband and sons… I HATE THIS

  5. They should at least release the age and in what condition the infected are – mild, critical etc.

  6. Is any contact tracing going on? I don’t mean immediate family members and friends, I’m referring to everyone potentially in contact with the people who tested positive.
Without giving names, can they not give the public the locations/times they had been in the two week prior? So that people who were there could get tested and quarantined and also, people with possible exposure can get tested.

  7. I’m on television and therefor my life is more valuable than yours. I want to be tested now and daily into the future. Also, please watch my podcasts.

  8. Get those masks and bandanas on people and yes get those store employees some masks too. I know every construction person probably has a box of them they need to give them to family and those poor employees still out there working. It’s spreading touch nothing and wash everything

  9. For those store clerks wearing gloves,It doesn’t replace hand washing and think about the bug being transferred with the glove ..it’s all a mess

  10. Yes, there got to be a criteria, I agree. That criteria should include the people who are in close or approximate contact with the infected people. It’s government’s responsibility to inform the infected people’s trace to the potential group of people. I don’t see that happens yet. Only thing that I hear is to stay home and wash hands, but there are people who do not follow the guideline, and still go out! It will never be 0%.
I don’t agree that testing kits should be only used by ill people as there are contracted people who do not show symptoms at all and they can spread the virus to weaker people.
It’s also government’s responsibility to lead the society not cause paranoid and panic by showing transparent way of how they are working on mitigating this epidemic. Putting all of the pressures to individuals by only saying social distance and stay home have its limit. We need to eventually go out for buying food and doing other necessary errands. It could be just a single cough away from a contracted person for us to be infected. How can we protect ourselves then? More aggressive measure to inform infected people’s whereabouts and quarantine them if necessary is necessary.
