At Least 93 Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases Confirmed, 13 Hospitalized

At least 93 Santa Clarita coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the valley, officials said Friday.

A total of 13 of the coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita have required hospitalization, with no new hospitalizations since Thursday, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

Henry Mayo has administered a total of 295 tests, as of Friday, with 206 of which have returned negative, and 43 are positive, according to Moody.

Friday’s report adds 19 more cases to the total count in the Santa Clarita Valley, the largest jump of cases to date.

Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

As of Friday, there are 78 confirmed cases in the city of Santa Clarita, four in Castaic, six in Stevenson Ranch, and five in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country, according to public health officials.

The numbers for the unincorporated portions of Valencia and Saugus, as well as nearby Acton, have been “suppressed,” meaning there are between one and four confirmed cases for each community, according to the Department of Public Health.

This is done to protect patient privacy. Once these locations have five or more confirmed cases, the numbers are expected to be included, according to a public health spokesperson.

There were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the unincorporated portions of Newhall as of Friday afternoon.

One death was reported in Santa Clarita on Tuesday after a Santa Clarita Transit bus driver succumbed to the virus, with two others infected.

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.

  1. I’ve been pushing it for weeks now MASKS people don’t leave home without one! Even a simple bandana or scarf will do something covering your mouth and nose to prevent you from inhaling these virus particles in public places like the grocery store it will also stop those unknown infected from exhaling virus particles. CDC failed us on that one and now thousands are DEAD. Also gloves are not good unless you toss them out after each thing you touch hand sanitizer is better you can sanitizer after each thing you touch.

    • Also your mail might have this virus on it, stick it on the dashboard of your car in the hot sun for a few hour’s the combo of heat and UV will kill it. It’s better to just assume everything in public places has the virus on it clean and sanitize everything you bring home and wash or sanitizer those hands after you do, stay safe scv

      • Will, there’s no need to panic. Suspend belief, judgment until we have more information. We have so much information coming at us that it’s impossible to process it. I can’t tell you to stop worrying, but. I hope that reason prevails. “There is nothing new under the sun”. I’d rather be out in the sun shoring up my immune system, helping my neighbors. Masks do nothing. Hand sanitizer removes the good bacteria we need to fight infection. This is not good advice they’re giving us.

        • Please do not spread misinformation. “Good bacteria” will not stop COVID-19. N95 masks are effective in preventing its spread. You are dangerously misinformed.

I would rather be out helping my neighbors, too, but that’s exceptionally dangerous if you are a carrier but asymptomatic.

Yes, there’s a lot of information out there, but if that’s overwhelming then at least focus on what the CDC is telling you.

          • N95 masks are effective but CDC is telling us not to use them so they can have enough supply for the front line folks. They are telling us to use regular cloth masks.

        • Don’t spread wrong information. If you know that the virus is airborne, you can’t say masks do nothing. It makes most sense to cover your mouth so you can protect yourself from others, vice versa.

          • N95 masks are effective but we are supposed to use cloth or some other masks. Their effectiveness is suspect and could give you a false sense of security but I am for anything that gives peace of mind.

        • You say, “Hand sanitizer removes the good bacteria we need to fight infection.” Please note- It’s to rub on your hands; you’re not supposed to drink it!

          • Most hand sanitizers are made from so many chemicals they harm more than help. Yes and amen to being out in the sun getting that pure vitamin D and breathing the fresh air! And say hi to people! Being quarantined/ staying inside is more harmful than germs. Also, how do we know for sure these counts of infected people… are even correct? Don’t j or st decide look for the facts. Fear and panic are also harmful to the body. There will always be germs and masks don’t keep everything out. Be in peace with Jesus and trust Him.

      • I’m with Will on this! Better to be safe than sorry! It seems extreme, but those things are the things we need to do now! If people wanna be stupid, and this gets out of hand a lot more, don’t be surprised if the government implements Marshall Law! Tanks armed to the teeth could be going down the street looking for stragglers, blaring bullhorns all night long telling you you better not go out, then they’ll take away all your guns, then, they could force you to take injections of the “possible” cures, with who knows what that could do to you! If you hear about other countries doing this, we’re in trouble! Seems more extreme than you were thinking about, right?! This could be a possibility in a worst-case scenario! Say what you will, but we’ll see one way or the other, won’t we?! These are times like nobody alive has ever seen before! God forbid!! You think the media is shooting everything straight to you?! You got another thing coming! There’s WAY more infected than they’re telling you!

        • We should just commit suicide…geez!

        • Calm down and take a breath. No tanks are rolling down the streets of Santa Clarita. And honey you having a gun is. Little scary.

        • Lisa, you need to calm down and educate yourself. This is America, there will never be tanks in the streets with bullhorns at night. Has anyone heard anything so ridiculous before?!! Do you have any idea how many guns American citizens own in this country?? No one, not even the Government could take them away.

Think before you talk. People act like people are dying left and right. 5x the amount of people are recovering versus dying.

Survival of the fittest, it is what it is…just relax.

    • The masks protect others from you, but does not protect you from infected people who are not wearing a mask. Also, if an infected person sneezes or speaks, wherever their droplets land and you touch it, then your face, then you have exposed yourself. The reason for everyone wearing a mask is that some people have the disease without symptoms and to prevent those people from spreading it. And everyone touching produce at the store, do you know how many people touched that beautiful apple or lettuce before you bought it…just a thought.

  2. Sorry to break the news, but Mother Nature is in charge. The best you can do is stay away from everyone until the vaccine comes. Then get the shot!

  3. Lisa, the scariest thing of all is the federal government isn’t taking leadership, The masks in “our” federal stockpile were put into the free market in the interest of profit, while people die. It’s a disgrace. Plus, our president said it was a hoax as recently as Feb. 26. And there are people out there, believe it or not, that STILL think we’re all overreacting.

  4. First things first-wash your hands and don’t touch your face. That is why masks work, so you don’t touch your face. Only people that are sick and doctors and nurses that are treating patience Should be wearing masks. Everyone else can ware bandannas and such. Leave the n95 masks for medical personnel only. Your chance of getting this through the air is .001% however getting is from your hands touching something then touching your face is really high. This includes gloves touching something then touching your face. Wash your hands and us hand sanitizer when ever you touch something. Everytime! And stop touching your face .

  5. Lisa, you misspelled martial law. Also, it’s not capitalized. It’s not a “Law” named after “Marshall.”

  6. It’s a great time to think about your faith
