City Of Santa Clarita Closes All Dog Parks, Basketball Courts Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Officials with the City of Santa Clarita announced additional restrictions and closures at city parks Monday in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The additional closures at city parks were instated to “ensure the necessary social distancing to slow the spread of the coronavirus.”

“It was disappointing to see the number of people who were not following the social distancing orders that are in place to protect our community,” said Mayor Cameron Smyth in a statement Monday. “In order to stop the group recreation that many have witnessed at our City parks, it is necessary to add these additional restrictions. We continue to work to balance the needs of the community with the essential safety measures that must be taken at this time.”

Effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the following park amenities are set to be closed throughout the City of Santa Clarita:

  • Basketball Courts
  • Tennis/Pickleball Courts
  • Dog Parks
  • Park Restrooms

Meanwhile, the following are still set to remain open to the public:

  • All sports fields at parks
  • All trails
  • All open space and trailheads

Residents who are utilizing City parks and trails are urged to practice six feet of social distancing. For more information on steps the City is taking to protect residents, please visit here.

  1. But won’t closing the restooms be a bad thing because the delivery drivers use those restrooms. I live near a park and see them there frequently. People need their deliveries. My medication is delivered via UPS these delivery people need restrooms.

  2. I had to go to the store today!
I saddened that thier was a lot of people out.
    I have underline health issues.
And I feel like residents are not listening.

  3. Restrooms should still be open and available at any restaurant that offers carry-out.

Also, any of the c-store/gas stations.

The FedEx and UPS drivers know the spots where to go – they use my places all the time!
I should negotiate lower shipping rates for all the many times the drivers have flushed my toilets!
