Highest One-Day COVID-19 Deaths Reported By Los Angeles County

The highest one-day count for COVID-19 deaths have been reported by Los Angeles County Friday, as the surge in cases continues to overwhelm hospitals countywide.

An additional 18,313 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Friday, along with 318 deaths, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).

This brings the county’s cumulative total to 889,405 positive cases of COVID-19 and 18,313 deaths since March 2020.

More than one in every five people in L.A. County who have been tested are testing positive for coronavirus, public health officials said.

According to Paul Simon, chief science officer for the LADPH, 151,772 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered as of Thursday, Jan. 7.

Public health officials continued to stress the need for the public practice of physical distancing and wearing a cloth face covering

As of Friday, there were 8,074 people hospitalized with COVID-19, over 20% of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Testing results are available for over 4,923,000 individuals with 16% of people testing positive.

According to California health officials, the Southern California Region has 0.0% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of Friday.

Health officials say that at its current rate, one person in Los Angeles County dies of COVID-19 every 8 minutes. Ferrer noted Monday that it is “likely” that the County could begin reporting over 1,000 COVID-19 deaths a week if the surge continues.

For those who have just returned from a trip outside of Los Angeles County, they must quarantine in place for 10 days and monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Testing is suggested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if one is possibly exposed to someone who was positive.

  1. Until Newsome decides to use science to distribute vaccines by greatest risk profile instead of union demand and not lock down the whole population, this is not going to get better. NY is also failing massively due to arcane regulation and policies drafted in a similar Progressive vein. This has been proven in countries and states who understand this.

  2. Name one country or state and how they compare to the massive outbreak in LA county. Your anti-Newsom rhetoric is all talk and no data. If they could give everything to everyone right now they would. There is only so much supply of all resources combatting Covid, including nurses. This all takes time. Stay home, this country is not prepared for more and more cases. Get real, Get_CA_Sane.
