With the influx of bad news that has been overtaking headlines in recent days, KHTS has decided to put together a series on the upside of things during the coronavirus, COVID-19 quarantine.
Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth decided to get in on the fun by encouraging the Santa Clarita community to stay active, along with some help from his family.
In the video playfully titled, “Coach Cameron Smyth’s PE Class During Quarantine,” the family of five rush around their backyard.
“It’s important to stay active,” says Smyth in the video.
Santa Clarita resident and “This Is Us” star Mackenzie Hancsicsak announced the Tie-A-Bow Challenge to show support for essential workers on the front line during the coronavirus outbreak.
Hancsicsak and fellow “This is Us” alum Parker Bates are among the celebrities launching the #TieABowChallenge – challenging the world to place a bow on their door to show support for essential workers braving the frontlines during the coronavirus shutdown.
The pair joined KHTS Radio live on air, via telephone, to spread the challenge to the Santa Clarita community.
“It’s supposed to say thank you to all these amazing workers out here delivering you packages and all the doctors and nurses out here saving our lives,” Hancsicsak said.
Starting March 30, young celebrities, including Raegan Revord of “Young Sheldon” and Jason Maybaum from “Raven’s Home,” are asking supporters to hang a bow on their door or in their window to symbolize solidarity with each other during this difficult time of isolation and show support for people still risking contact with the virus on a daily basis as essential workers.
“It’s for all those people out there who are literally risking their lives as essential workers,” said Connor Finnerty, a dancer and actor supporting the challenge. “We’re all in this together and we want to show our support.”
Participants are encouraged to share photos of their bows on social media using the hashtag #tieabowchallenge.
Another young resident stepping up is Jamie Roy, who decided to bring a little bit of joy to the surrounding neighborhoods by painting rocks with uplifting messages.
Each of the brightly painted rocks bears a special message, encouraging fellow Santa Claritans affected by the quarantine to keep moving forwards and looking on the brighter side.
“I made these rocks so that when people are looking around the neighborhood they can see the rocks and it’ll inspire them to keep walking forward, to feel better in this situation,” said Roy.
Anyone who wants to keep “Finding The Good In Santa Clarita” is encouraged to share their favorite ways to keep their spirits up while still social distancing.

KHTS Radio Santa Clarita Radio – Santa Clarita News
Hi everyone, I have lived in the Santa clarita valley for 55 years. I have seen it grow into a great city and we have been through many hardships and even more good times. So I have a challenge for anyone reading this. The government is going to be sending relief checks to everyone soon. I am going to donate my check to the senior center for taking such good care of our elderly friends. Now if you really need the money by all means use it. If you don’t really need it maybe you can help someone that does.. THANK YOU! Stay safe everyone and we will get through this together!
My insurance agent (and sister), Suzanne Macino, called every one of her clients to check on them. She found out that one of the families was struggling due to the husband losing his job due to Coronavirus. The parents had gone to bed hungry for the last few nights so the food could go to their children. Suzanne and her husband went to the store and bought groceries for the family. She shared the story with her boss, who then brought food to Suzanne to take to the family. The mother cried when she saw they would have food for the entire family. Suzanne proves every day that her clients matter to her. This is just one example of her giving and caring nature.
