Theme Park Reopening Guidelines Provided By California Public Health Officials

Theme park reopening guidelines have been provided by California public health officials on Tuesday.

After site visits at several theme parks across the state, Secretary of California Health and Human Services Dr. Mark Ghaly announced smaller theme parks can reopen in Tier 3 and larger theme parks, such as Six Flags Magic Mountain, would be able to reopen in Tier 4.

Ghaly shared concerns with large-scale “random mixing,” in which thousands of parkgoers congregate with many outside the community where the theme park operates

The health secretary outlined lower risk settings with more controlled mixing with people in a closer geographical base.

The state split up theme parks into two categories — smaller and larger — with the smaller category, including boardwalk attractions, able to reopen in Tier 3 of the California “Blueprint for a Safer Economy.”

Ticket sales are limited to 25 percent capacity, with a top capacity of 500 people for small theme parks, and tickets are limited to those within the same county.

For larger theme parks, including Magic Mountain, the same 25 percent capacity is in effect for reopening in Tier 4.

As of Tuesday, Los Angeles County remains in the most restrictive Tier 1, with the COVID-19 criteria still above the next tier of reopening.

All theme parks must implement a reservation system and screen guests for coronavirus symptoms.

Face coverings are required for all guests throughout the park unless eating or drinking, according to the guidelines.

At Six Flags Magic Mountain, the safety of guests and team members is of the highest priority, said Sue Carpenter, spokesperson for the park.

“In consultation with our epidemiologist, we have developed wide-ranging safety standards that exceed city, state and CDC guidelines,” Carpenter said.

Since June, Six Flags has safely reopened and operated 15 outdoor theme parks and water parks across multiple states and countries throughout North America.

Six Flags implemented technologically advanced safety procedures including an online reservation system and a contactless entry process.

“The feedback from city and state leaders has been consistent—Six Flags and the industry have served as a best-in-class example of how to safely reopen all types of businesses,” Carpenter said.

Magic Mountain began preparing for reopening by implementing all procedures outlined in our plan, including reconfiguring guest traffic patterns and processes on rides to comply with six-foot social distancing, procurement of safety equipment and cleaning supplies, posting safety signage throughout the park and training of team members for effective communication and strict enforcement of all mandated guidelines.

“Let’s work together to reopen, and to ensure we keep Californians in California in a safe, fun and outdoor environment,” Carpenter said.

  1. Since June, Six Flags has safely reopened and operated 15 outdoor theme parks and water parks across multiple states and countries throughout North America.
    Newsom is a ……….

  2. Just heard Disney wont open for awhile, possible 6 months. If this doesnt get you to recall Newsom. He has done nothing for this state.. time to say good bye

  3. If Biden wins, watch how quickly things open.

    • From WSJ:
Biden agenda, if fully implemented, would reduce full-time equivalent employment per person by about 3%, the capital stock per person by some 15%, and real GDP per capita by more than 8%. Compared to Congressional Budget Office estimates for these variables in 2030, this means there would be 4.9 million fewer working Americans, $2.6 trillion less in GDP, and $6,500 less in median household income.
… feel free to vote for this guy and kiss your money goodbye

  4. Even clowns are livid when they’re being compared to Newsom.

  5. I am amazed at how tolerant everyone seems to be with these sweeping and random decisions not based on science at all (they have yet to reference a single medical study indicating masks lockdowns and 6′ have any meaningful impact). The willingness to be controlled by an authoritarian regime like this is sad. Literally, nobody seems to be pushing back. Thankfully my CA exit plans are in progress. But if Biden wins, he has promised this same approach nationally collapsing the economy. Then what?

  6. It’s only in CA. Our elected officials are out of their minds. Living in their ivory tower. other states are handling the China virus far better than us. We can’t even keep the lights on, literally. SMH

  7. More unemployment and loss of business surrounding areas. The cure is worse than the disease. With a successful survival statistically shown. Not based on science. This is political. Democrats have become the most vile people.

  8. Sooooo, let me get this straight,
Going to get services such as INDOOR waxes or visiting a Tattoo parlor, as well as going to Walmart/Costco is now ok according to Secretary of California Health and Human Services Dr. Mark Ghaly, but visiting OUTSIDE Theme park in California is not,
    Yea, that makes since.
This year’s Thanksgiving gatherings are ok with a three family limit according to Secretary of California Health and Human Services Dr. Mark Ghaly, however, if you’re a Family of four siblings, which one of the siblings will be asked to not attend,
    Yea, that makes since.
Homeless gathering in masses, not social distancing or wearing masked is obviously ok with Secretary of California Health and Human Services Dr. Mark Ghaly, just look around,
    Yea, that makes since.
According to the Los Angeles Times, TODAY, Oct 20, 2020, multiple counties of poll workers have been instructed to allow everyone to vote – whether or not they are wearing a mask, “Maskless Californians who show up to the polls to vote next month will be allowed to cast their ballot”, according to today’s report.
    Yea, that makes since.
And just to remind all, our Democratic Governor recently told Golden State residents that if we go out to eat, that we all should be wearing a mask “in between bites”
    Yea, that makes since
And since Disney World has been open for months and Six Flags has already safely reopened and operated 15 outdoor theme parks and water parks across multiple states and countries throughout North America since June,
    This makes no since,
Only in California, the home of arbitrary lockdown guidelines.
