Trump Declares All Places Of Worship ‘Essential,’ Calls On Them To Open

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is considering places of worship to be essential and has asked the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to put out guidelines allowing places of worship to reopen this weekend.

During the Friday morning White House briefing, Trump determined churches to be essential.

“We want our churches open, we want our places of faith, synagogues, we want them open,” Trump said. “That’s going to start happening. I consider them essential, and that’s one of the things we are saying.”

However, as of Friday afternoon the CDC has not released the guidelines for how churches can reopen.

“We will not be in our building this weekend, but will still have our online services,” said Rusty George, pastor of Real Life Church in Valencia.

Governor Gavin Newsom is also set to release guidelines for how churches can reopen, however, those guidelines are not expected to be released until Monday, according to George.

When the guidelines from both the CDC and Newsom are released, George feels that it will still be a challenge for churches to open their doors to the public at first.

“In our situation, and in many churches in Santa Clarita, because we are so large there is probably going to be strict restrictions on how many people can fit in a room,” George said.

For larger churches to be able to accommodate all their members, they may need to have multiple church services which could be difficult, George said.

RLC plans to look at the guidelines Monday, and see how they can open in a responsible way, George said.

“People want to be in their churches,” Trump said. “It’s wonderful to sit home and watch something on a laptop, but it can never be the same as being in a church or being with your friends and they want to have it open and I think that’s going to be happening very shortly.”

The President also said that in the case of states that do not comply with allowing churches to reopen, Trump will override them.

“The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend,” Trump said. “If they don’t do it, I will override the governors.”

  1. Churches and places of worship are essential? Huh. Well, DONNY, my body is my temple and I worship at the gym. And if maintenance of one’s faith is crucial at this time, I would say that same logic holds even MORE true for maintenance of one’s HEALTH. So my expectation is that you’ll also override and allow the gyms to open again. OH! Wait a tick. Yeah, that’s right, gym members aren’t a necessarily a targeted voting demographic that you absolutely need the support of to hopefully carry on your failed presidency beyond 2020, but the religious right IS. Yeah, that’s right. I get it now.

(And before everybody starts cracking off and calling me a “Lib-tard,” no, I did not vote for Clinton either. Both parties play between the 40 yard lines at this point, and neither represents my views.)

  2. Doesn’t sound like a good idea, unless very few attend at a time.. Rusty George sounds responsible and cautious, as a person who cares about his parishioners should.

  3. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your
Father; who is in secret; and your father who sees in secret will reward you.

  4. I went to the gas station today and seven out of the ten people in line did not have a mask. It was almost like normal!
Why are all of the doctors trying to tell you how to sterilize the world around you but never talk about things that can boost your immune system to fight the virus before it is a problem.
If you read between the anger, Larry makes a good point of taking care of yourself but the politicians, who I feel are acting dictators, are locking some people out and letting others do as they please in ways that make no common sense.

  5. The Ariel view of our church is beautiful. Never really seen from this angle before

  6. I don’t think it is a good idea. COVID-19 is more infectious than people think. Going to these places of crowd can be easily effect. I bought some masks from epidemiology.amotx.com and always remembered to wear them when going out.

  7. Christ warned his followers that they would be hated because of him. Pray for the haters.

  8. If everyone has a mask on we should be able to open everything up just like they did in South Korea. We should have followed their advice instead of CDC.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
