2-Year-Old Dies From Injuries Caused By Alleged Drunk Driver

A 2-year-old has died after suffering major injuries from a crash caused by an alleged drunk driver from Stevenson Ranch, according to officials.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11 2023, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the northbound 5 freeway south of Balboa Boulevard, with a 2-year-old child unconscious and not breathing, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

“Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) units were first on scene and provided medical care for the toddler until Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) personnel arrived and took over medical care,” Greengard said.

The 2-year-old was transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with major injuries and died on Wednesday, Greengard said Thursday.

Christian Bedolla, 31, from Stevenson Ranch was driving a Ford Focus northbound on I-5, south of Balboa Boulevard in the No. 1 lane, behind a Ford Expedition the car the child was a passenger in, Greengard said.

Due to Bedolla’s unsafe speed, he collided into the rear of the Ford Expedition. The crash caused the Ford Expedition to lose control and collide into the right shoulder guardrail and concrete pillar beneath Balboa Boulevard, according to officials.

Bedolla was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked at the LAPD Van Nuys Jail.

Once the criminal report is updated with the child’s death, the CHP will submit the report to the District Attorney’s Office.

  1. He took a life. He should spend the rest of his sorry life in prison.

  2. Unfortunately I don’t trust the DA of LACounty to do the right thing.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
