21-Year-Old Arrested In Beating Of An Elderly Man At Newhall Bar

A 21-year-old man from Newhall was arrested Monday after he allegedly punched an 84-year-old man at Doc’s Inn last month, leaving him with a fractured skull.

In security footage shared on social media, the 21-year-old was seen punching an elderly man at the bar inside Doc’s Inn in Newhall at around 1 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27

“An informant called 9-1-1 stating that two groups were involved in a fight,” said a representative for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect was then seen leaving the bar with four or five other persons after the altercation, according to LASD officials.

Staff at Doc’s Inn told reporters from FOX11 that the victim, a regular patron in his 80s, suffered a fractured skull and brain bleed in the attack.

After several weeks of investigating, detectives located Owen Hayes,  21, from Newhall Monday who was taken into custody, said Robert Jensen, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He remains in police custody as of Monday afternoon.

  1. Nothing Good Happens After Midnight

Plaster his face everywhere so all the bars in town can trespass him . 21 year old acting like that at bars within his first year of legal drinking age . Hopefully the DA will throw the book at him

  2. Bullsh*t. The detectives did not ‘locate’ the suspect. A bartender at Doc’s and a few patrons reviewed the video, matched to logo on the sweatshirt, saw the tattoo and checked the school website.

The station ‘detectives’ are too weak to do that much work on their own.

  3. Station ‘detectives’ didn’t l do squat. The information was handed to them by the bartender and patrons.

The looked up the logo on the sweatshirt, researched the tattoo and looked up the school website.

‘Weeks of investigation’. Not so much.

    Weak.

  4. The suspect is an adult, name him & his occupation

  5. Should be charged with aggravated assault and be charged with a felony and mandatory jail time of more than a year. This elder gentleman should sue him and have any future wages garnished. Let this guy sit in jail and think about how he has ruined the next few years of his life. Criminals need to be punished for their actions.

  6. Who cares how they found him. What human does that to another. Let’s talk Felony Elder Abuse. No respect out there any more

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
