An Acton man was arrested after he allegedly punched and attempted to stab a person during an argument Friday morning.

Around 5 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to the 27300 block of Dovehouse Street in Canyon Country regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“During the investigation, deputies determined the victim and the suspect, both adult males, were involved in a verbal argument,” Miller said. “The suspect allegedly began punching the victim with his hands and then attempted to stab the victim with a knife.”

Jose Oriz, 18, of Acton, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Oriz was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail and remains in custody on $30,000 bail, Miller added.

The victim declined medical treatment.
