Alleged Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends At Newhall Apartment Complex, Suspect On The Run

An alleged stolen vehicle pursuit came to an end Sunday afternoon at the Canyon Crest Apartments in Newhall, prompting a large law enforcement response as deputies searched for a suspect on foot.

The pursuit began Sunday around 3:00 p.m. when a patrol unit ran the license plates of a vehicle and discovered it had been reported stolen, according to a deputy with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

When the vehicle pulled into the Chevron station on Newhall Avenue, the deputy attempted to detain the driver and passenger at gunpoint.

The male driver sped off leading deputies into pursuit to the Canyon Crest Apartments, where he abandoned the vehicle and ran into the complex.

Deputies reported seeing the man jump over a fence before disappearing into the area.

The female passenger was taken into custody at the scene.

Deputies surrounded the apartment complex and called in air support, with two helicopters circling overhead as authorities searched for the suspect, who they believe may be hiding inside one of the units.

As of Sunday afternoon, the suspect remained at large.
