Armed Canyon Country Assault Suspect Arrested After Lunging At Victim

A Canyon Country assault suspect was arrested Sunday after allegedly lunging at a victim with a knife.

On Sunday, deputies responded to the 17100 block of Sierra Highway in Canyon Country regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported a male Hispanic adult approached the victim with a black knife,” Arriaga said.  “Upon arrival, deputies learned during a verbal argument between the victim and suspect, the suspect brandished a pocket knife and ran towards the victim while making verbal threats.”

The victim entered his yard in order to create a barrier between himself and the assault suspect, according to Arriaga.

“The suspect continued to make verbal threats while walking away, causing fear in the victim,” Arriaga said.

“Deputies detained a male matching the suspect description on the 17500 block of Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, later confirmed to be the suspect,” Arriaga said.

Angel Garcia, 27, from Canyon Country, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, both felonies, Arriaga said.

The assault suspect was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Tuesday.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
