An assault with a deadly weapon suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly pointed a gun at a person last month, officials said.

On Nov. 29 around 2:30 a.m., the victim, an adult male in his 20s, and the suspect reportedly got into a verbal argument, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The argument escalated and the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm at the victim, threatening him,” Miller said.

Before deputies arrived, the suspect fled the area, according to officials.

On Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., deputies conducted a felony traffic stop on a vehicle near Jakes Way and Sierra Highway, where deputies took the suspect into custody, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Guillermo Martinez, 20, of Newhall, was arrested by detectives on felony assault with a deadly weapon charges, Miller said.

Martinez was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.
