Canyon Country Assault Suspect Arrested After Punching, Pushing Elderly Parents

A Canyon Country assault suspect was taken into custody Tuesday after he allegedly punched and pushed his elderly parents, officials said.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to a possible assault call in Canyon Country, said Sgt. Joel Nebel, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detective Bureau.

The suspect, who allegedly has a drug problem, was causing a disturbance outside, according to Nebel.

“When the victim, elderly father, told him to come inside, (the suspect) knocked the father over causing injuries,” Nebel said.

The son then got mad at the mother and pushed her up against a wall by her neck and spat in her face, according to investigators.

“Eventually, the suspect then punched the father approximately six times in the upper torso area too,” Nebel said.

William Hawkins, 37, from Canyon Country, was arrested and charged on assault charges, Nebel added.

Hawkins was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $15,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
