Canyon Country Man Assaults Father, Escapes Police Custody

A Canyon Country man was arrested Friday after he allegedly assaulted his father and escaped police custody.

Friday morning, deputies responded to the 17300 block of Humphreys Parkway in Canyon Country regarding a possible elder abuse report, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim, an adult male and the suspect’s father, had been physically assaulted by the suspect,” Miller said.

The victim was treated on scene by paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Douglas Miller, 39, from Canyon Country, was arrested for felony elder abuse, according to Sheriff’s officials.

During the transfer, the suspect reportedly escaped from custody. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was subsequently taken back into custody and charged with felony escape.

He remains in custody with no bail, Miller added.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
