A Canyon Country man was arrested Wednesday night for an alleged assault with a deadly weapon after he reportedly charged at a person with a running circular saw, officials said.
At around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the 27700 block of Crosspath Avenue in Canyon Country regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. .
“The victim male, late 20’s and suspect are acquaintances,” Miller said.
The victim reportedly went to the home of the suspect, who was later identified as 36-year-old Maurilio Mondragon of Canyon Country, to pick up some property as the victim’s mom and Mondragon were reportedly in a previous relationship, according to Miller.
“The suspect reportedly welcomed him in,” Miller said. “At some point there was a verbal argument between the two, and the suspect got angry and told him to leave.”
The victim then reportedly went into a room and locked himself in it to gather his mom’s belongings, according to Miller.
Mondragon allegedly began banging on the door, breaking it off the hinges. He then allegedly came aggressively towards the victim with a saw in his hands that was turned on, Miller said.
Deputies later arrested Mondragon on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, Miller added.
He was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, with bail set at $30,000, according to arrest records.
No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
