A containment was set up in Newhall Tuesday night after a traffic collision involving a suspect vehicle and a deputy.
Around 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, emergency responders were called to the scene of a traffic collision at 25000 block of Walnut Avenue near 16th Street, according to Dispatch Supervisor Troy with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The suspect, a known gang member, fled from deputies and left behind a handgun, according to Deputy Robert Jensen, spokesperson for the SCV Station.
At one point, the suspect’s abandoned vehicle, which apparently had not been placed in park, reversed and struck one of the responding deputy vehicles.
A female adult and minor child in the vehicle were evaluated at the scene, per officials at the scene.
A containment was set up in the area to attempt to locate the male suspect. As of the publication of this article, he has not been taken into custody.

The city should condemn and teardown all apartments near Walnut and 16th-14th. Then redevelop that area commercial space, instead of building on open space like the Mule Farm.
Crime would then plummet.
