A RV pursuit suspect that led authorities on a pursuit in May which started in Santa Clarita and ended in the San Fernando Valley appeared in court Monday, officials said.
Julie Rainbird, 52 at the time of the chase, of Winnetka, originally pled not guilty to one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle causing serious bodily injury, hit-and-run driving resulting in serious injury to another person and felony cruelty to an animal, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in a previous KHTS article.
Rainbird was also charged on three counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run driving resulting in injury to another person, Santiago said.
The charges include allegations of causing great bodily injury and of a prior conviction for multiple identifying information theft in 2015, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The pursuit originally began on The Old Road near Towsley Canyon when Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies attempted to stop the alleged stolen motorhome.
Once the pursuit entered the 118 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol took the lead of the chase.
The pursuit went through surface streets, where the suspect collided with parked cars, hit a tree and two occupied vehicles, according to officials.
The pursuit came to an end on Tampa Boulevard and Wells Drive in Tarzana when the driver struck one of the occupied vehicles.
During the pursuit, two dogs were also in the RV. One managed to jump out of the vehicle during the pursuit and the second one was reportedly ejected from the RV during the last collision.
Rainbird was not the owner of the dogs, according to officials.
Officials with the Los Angeles City Animal Care and Control held the two dogs for 30 days before putting them up for adoption.
If convicted as charged, Rainbird faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 14 years in state prison. Bail was set at $395,000, according to D.A’s Office officials.
Rainbird is set to return to court on April 1 for a preliminary hearing, according to officials.

I watched this chase on YouTube and was so scared for the fur babies. This goes to show how loyal the fur babies are, even after the woman put the fur babies in danger one of them stood by her side. This woman is charged with two counts of cruelty of animals, grand theft auto, 4 counts of hit and run, two attempted murder with a motor vehicle, various traffic violations, evading arrest, 4 counts of of evading police, driving while intoxicated, driving drunk plus many more. She can face about 14 years in prison. Throw away the key if you ask me.
