Santa Clarita Girl Scouts Treasurer Back In Court For Allegedly Embezzling $90K

A Santa Clarita Girl Scouts treasurer returned to court Tuesday for a continuation of a preliminary hearing setting after she allegedly embezzling over $90,000, officials said.

Patricia Cascione, 52, of Santa Clarita, pled not guilty in October 2018 to two felony counts of embezzlement by a public or private officer, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Cascione, a certified public accountant, was the chief financial officer of the Beverly Hills Cancer Center and the volunteer treasurer for two local Girl Scouts of the United States of America chapters, as well as a Girl Scouts service unit, when the alleged crimes occurred, according to prosecutors.

Starting in March of 2013, to Feb. 13, 2017, Cascione is accused of using funds totaling $58,863 from Girl Scouts accounts for her personal use, according to prosecutors.

Furthermore, in her CFO role, the defendant allegedly diverted $34,500 in donations from the cancer center to one of her Girl Scouts accounts in order to embezzle the money, prosecutors said.

Although detectives have confirmed that their current case only involves the two victims — Girls Scouts of the USA Troops and the Beverly Hills Cancer Center — Sgt. David Chambers has said that she was also involved in a number of “youth activities” in Santa Clarita.

Although not among the organizations named in the criminal complaint, Cascione was listed as the Saugus High School girls’ soccer team “fundraiser.” KHTS also learned that Cascione was in charge of the GoFundMe page for the family of Wyatt Savaikie — a 14-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a vehicle in 2015 in Saugus.

Cascione’s case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Emerging Cyber Trends Team.

She is set to face a possible maximum penalty of up to three years and eight months in custody if convicted as charged.

Cascione is set to return to court for pretrial on Dec. 18.

  1. This isn’t accurate. She was participating in fundraisers for saugus cross country not for the saugus soccer team. I know this because I ran with her daughter.

  2. She was involved with fundraising for soccer teams that her older daughters played on, including club and high school.

  3. Patricia has recently reached out to myself as well as friends and her daughters friends requesting character letters to present to the judge. She was offered a deal and turned it down.
