An alleged street race that ended in three deaths, several murder charges and a specialized investigation by CHP experts is unlikely to have a trial date any time soon, officials said.

Dealio Lockhart, 37, was charged with three counts of second-degree murder and four counts of reckless driving causing injury, after a February 27 collision that killed Brian Lewandowski, 18; Michelle Littlefield, 19; and UPS driver Scott Treadway, 52.

All three died on scene after a collision prompted the UPS truck to go airborne and crash over the center median, and sheer the top off of the Nissan in which Littlefield and Lewandowski were passengers.

In addition to the three fatalities, four others were seriously injured: two males in the Nissan and a man and a woman in separate cars.

The murder charges stemmed from investigators’ belief that Lockhart was racing his Dodge Challenger with another vehicle around midnight when the crash took place.

The complicated nature of the crash, which called for a detailed investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s MAIT team (a Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team that specializes in crash investigation), resulted in the delays thus far, said prosecutor Michael Blake.

CHP officials confirmed Wednesday the report is not yet complete.

Once the report is released, trial preparations would likely need to be continued for attorneys on both sides to evaluate the report, Blake said.

The next scheduled date for a hearing Sept. 8, but again, that date is expected to be pushed back due to questions about the evidence.
