Deputies Respond To Swatting Call Involving Rapper DDG In Castaic

On Sunday around 5:10 p.m., deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm and threatening to harm others in Castaic.

The person who called deputies provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which deputies located at the 31000 block of Charlie Canyon Road, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for  the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The driver was detained for questioning.

A preliminary investigation determined the man was not involved in any criminal activity and was the victim of a swatting incident. That is a false police report made to provoke a large police response, often placing innocent people in danger.

According to People magazine, popular YouTube star and rapper DDG claims he was the victim of the swatting incident over the weekend.

The 27-year-old, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., went live on YouTube Monday and shared video from earlier that day showing him being surrounded by members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Castaic, where he was participating in a paintball tournament.

The video shows deputies handcuffing DDG and escorting him to a vehicle, at which point the handcuffs are removed.

DDG told viewers that deputies refused to respond when he asked why he was being detained.

A report was taken for the false call, and the case remains under investigation by SCV Sheriff’s detectives.
