Between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, CHP Newhall officers patrolled along Sierra Highway, where they issued 47 citations for speeding, according to officials with the office.
Additionally, officers cited two individuals for driving without a license, and one driver’s vehicle was impounded, as they had a DUI suspension.
CHP officials have noted an increase in speeding across California since the beginning of the statewide stay-at-home orders issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first month of these orders, the CHP reported issuing 2,493 citations statewide for speeding more than 100 mph, as compared to 1,335 during the same period last year, representing an 87 percent increase.

“It is alarming to see the number of citations officers are writing for excessive speeds on California roadways,” said CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley in a statement back in April. “Higher speeds can lead to much more serious injuries and significantly increase the chance of death should a crash occur.”
As recently as Monday, Sept. 7, a man was killed in Newhall following a single-vehicle crash near Railroad Avenue and 5th Street. Officials later determined that speed was a factor in the incident.

To solve this problem the CHP should slow down the writing of citations to slow down speeding…wait, I’m confusing this logic with slowing down testing to lower the number of COVID cases. Never mind.
Very funny, I see what you did there Denny. Maybe the CHP should stop writing speeding tickets altogether because they don’t want to panic the drivers…or maybe if those speedsters just believe the CHP will magically disappear, it will happen. After all, speed limits are just government overreach in place to deprive us of our “rights” Now if you will excuse me, I need to plan a massive Halloween party, no masks required because damnit, we must think of the poor children deprived of the opportunity to rot their teeth while being homeschooled. Wink, wink
Hope they keep writing those tickets EVERY DAY!! Lots of money to be made like this, and as long as idiots don’t wanna slow down, I say get ‘em all! Need to learn to slow down, not just to avoid tickets, but to be driving SAFELY! Avoid accidents, and killing people!
I hope they also increase the rampant “cell phone addiction” violations!!
Denny and Alice: You made my day!!! It’s great to know there are other intelligent, educated, logical, and reasonable people out there. I will have a nice weekend because of you, and I hope you two do the same! Thank you!!!
