DUI Driver Arrested For Vehicular Manslaughter After Fatal Castaic Crash

An alleged DUI driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter Friday morning after a fatal Castaic crash in which his passenger died, officials said.

On Nov. 27 at about 2:45 a.m., an alleged drunk driver was traveling the wrong way — in the southern direction on the I-5 northbound — south of Templin Highway, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

“Due to (the suspect) driving his Ford Focus (the) wrong way on the freeway the front of the Ford Focus collided into the front of the Honda Accord,” reads the CHP report.

The driver of the Accord sustained major injuries with the Accord’s two passengers sustaining moderate injuries, according to investigators.

Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatchers received reports of the crash just before 3 a.m. Friday on the northbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway

“It was reported as a two-vehicle traffic collision (with) six patients, three critical with one trapped,” said Supervisor Imy McBride with the department at the time.

After firefighters arrived on scene, they found one person dead on arrival, McBride added.

It was later determined the victim of the crash, a 24-year-old Los Angeles man who has not been identified, was the passenger of the Ford Focus driven by the alleged DUI suspect.

Guadalupe Padilla Perez, 22, of Los Angeles, was arrested for felony vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence with gross negligence, according to arrest logs.

Padilla Perez was booked in lieu of $200,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
