A DUI suspect was arrested after allegedly striking a person and fleeing the crash on the 5 Freeway in Castaic last Friday evening, authorities said.
On Friday around 6:25 p.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers received reports of a minor crash on the northbound 5 Freeway near Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic, Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office said.
“As the party was exchanging information he was struck by a vehicle, a Gray Nissan 350Z,” Officer Burgos-Lopez said.
The suspect fled the scene of the collision and exited the freeway at Hasley Canyon Road, according to Burgos-Lopez.
The alleged hit-and-run suspect briefly stopped on The Old Road and Hillcrest Parkway and a witness was able to obtain a license plate number that was given to the CHP, according to officials.
CHP officers located the wanted individual at his home in Castaic. When officers attempted to detain him for suspected DUI and hit-and-run, the man became combative with law enforcement, according to Burgos-Lopez.
Raymond Perez, 23, from Castaic was charged with DUI causing injury and hit-and-run, both felonies, according to Burgos-Lopez.
“After being placed under arrest Perez was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital where he (again) became combative with officers,” Burgos-Lopez said. “Perez was ultimately booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Men’s Central Jail.”
The victim who was struck by Perez was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital in unknown condition.
