The majority of arrests made in Santa Clarita over President’s Day weekend were driving under the influence (DUI) related.

Out of the 27 total arrests made by officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office and deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station between Feb. 18 and Feb. 21, 14 were on DUI charges, according to arrest records.

There were five more arrests made this week compared to last week, which was Super Bowl weekend.

Nine of those arrested this week were residents of Santa Clarita and two were listed as transients, according to booking logs.

Nearly one third of arrests made this weekend by Santa Clarita law enforcement were on felony charges, according to officials.

One of those arrests was on vandalism charges, after the suspect caused over $400 in damage to the victim’s property, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Christian Hernandez, 36, was arrested after reportedly stomping on a victim’s front windshield until it shattered, Sheriff’s officials said.

Two of the felony arrests were on DUI charges, while another two people were arrested on felony charges for injuring a partner or cohabitant.

A transient was also arrested for committing felony arson after lighting garbage on fire at a Valencia Jack in the Box.
