‘Excessive’ Amount Of Meth Found In Drunk Driver’s Vehicle After Canyon Country Pursuit

An “excessive” amount of methamphetamine was allegedly found in a drunk driver’s vehicle following a Canyon Country pursuit Monday morning.

Around 9 a.m. Monday, a Canyon Country pursuit was initiated near Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road, moments after deputies responded to reports of a man asleep in the driver’s seat of his car, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies arrived and observed a male Black adult asleep in the driver’s seat of a gray Nissan Altima,” Arriaga said. “As deputies approached the vehicle, the driver began to slowly drive into the intersection, then continued onto northbound Sierra Highway despite deputies’ commands.”

A pursuit was initiated, and eventually came to an end at an apartment complex on the 17700 block of Sherzinger Lane in Canyon Country where the man was detained without incident, according to Arriaga.

“While speaking with the male, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person,” Arriaga said.

Field sobriety tests were performed which confirmed the male was under the influence of alcohol, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“A search of his vehicle resulted in the recovery of an excessive amount of methamphetamine,” Arriaga said.

Roland Sias, 52, from Canyon Country was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale, driving under the influence and evading a peace officer, all felonies, Arriaga added.

He was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and later released on bond, Arriaga said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
