Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 150 illegal immigrants across the Southland, including one man from El Salvador in Valencia, officials announced.

The ICE operation in Los Angeles and surrounding areas lasted from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25, according to a release from the immigration enforcement agency.
“The state laws preventing ICE from working in the jails is significantly impacting public safety by letting serious repeat offenders back out onto our streets,” said Thomas Giles, acting field office director for ICE enforcement and removal operations (ERO) Los Angeles. “Our presence would be focused in the jails, rather than in the streets, and safer for all involved, if ICE could again coordinate transfers of criminal aliens with local jails.”
Among the 150 arrested, approximately 90 percent had prior criminal convictions, according to ICE.
Included in the immigration bust, was a 47-year-old citizen of El Salvador arrested in Valencia on Sept. 23, who had been legally present in the U.S. until a judge ordered his removal from the country.

The man failed to depart the country after an immigration judge ordered him removed in 2013 following convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, vehicle theft, battery, and driving under the influence, said ICE officials.
In 2014, he was arrested for first-degree burglary and domestic violence. ICE lodged a detainer, but it was not honored. His most recent arrest came in 2018 for a charge of vandalism.
When ICE places a detainer on a person in police custody, they ask an arresting agency to notify immigration officers prior to the person’s release, said immigration officials.
“Approximately 40 percent of those aliens apprehended by ICE this week had previously been released by local law enforcement agencies despite ICE placing a detainer,” said ICE officials.
The bust comes at the heels of vocal opposition to federal immigration policies from California leaders, including Governor Jerry Brown and Attorney General Xavier Becerra.
California passed SB 54, the “Sanctuary State” law, which prohibits local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, according to the bill.

The law does not, nor cannot, prevent federal agents, such as ICE, to operate within the state.
In May, the Santa Clarita City Council voted to formally oppose SB 54, writing a letter in support of the federal government’s lawsuit to overturn the legislation.
Santa Clarita is the only city in Los Angeles County to formally oppose the “Sanctuary State” law.

Thank God ICE exists to remove convicted aliens from the U.S. It would be so much easier if the county jails honored ICE detainers.
Not cooperating with ICE and here is what you get. “In 2013 following convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, vehicle theft, battery, and driving under the influence.” And then in “2014, he was arrested for first-degree burglary and domestic violence. ICE lodged a detainer, but it was not honored. His most recent arrest came in 2018 for a charge of vandalism.” It is not right that local and state law enforcement cannot/will not cooperate with ICE. Wait until something bad happens to your family and see how you feel about someone like this individual.
Isn’t it amazing how YOUR Democratic Representatives, Congresspersons, Senators, etc. allow
these criminals to be coddled and safe from Federal Law Enforcement, while they ravage Your
neighborhoods, Daughters and businesses?
Yet people continue to oppose anything sensible by reelecting these same politicians who do not have YOUR welfare in mind.
Yes it is dispicable and they need to go! Tired of the lip service, lined pockets, money chasing politicians in this country period! But until conservatives take to the streets it ain’t going to happen!
Thank you, City of Santa Clarita, for standing up for what is right and upholding Federal Law!
Thank God for enforcing our LAWS. Good work and THANK YOU ICE, Punish the law breakers.
God Bless ICE and ALL of our Law Enforcement personnel. Also, thanks to Santa Clarita for opposing the
State and following the Rule of Law!
Amen! May God protect all law enforcement enforcing the law! And thank God we have smart city leaders to support the Fed Gov.
