Identity Theft Suspect Found With Over 120 Stolen Gift Cards, Credit Cards

An identity theft suspect was found with over 120 stolen gift cards and credit cards adding up to thousands of dollars in value after a traffic stop in Castaic.

Deputies patrolling the 5 Freeway at Parker Road in Castaic on Saturday at approximately 1:05 a.m. observed a vehicle driving with expired registration and no front license plate, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“When they conducted a traffic stop to warn/cite the female driver, they learned she was driving on a suspended driver’s license,” Arriaga said.

A search of her vehicle resulted in the recovery of over 60 gift cards, over 60 credit cards not matching the name of the driver, and drug paraphernalia, according to investigators.

Deputies additionally learned she had a previous conviction for identity theft, Arriaga added.

The suspect, Ana Morales, 41, of Norwalk, was arrested and booked for identity theft, a felony, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and being an unlicensed driver, according to Arriaga.

“With the holidays fast approaching, please be careful when purchasing gift cards,” Arriaga wrote on social media. “Ensure they are inside their original packaging and confirm with customer service they are still of value.”
