Kidnapping Suspect Wanted In Pursuit Crash Arrested

A man who led deputies on a high-speed pursuit that crashed last week in Newhall, leaving his girlfriend trapped in the wreckage, was arrested for kidnapping and several other charges Friday morning.

On Friday around 8:30 a.m., deputies spotted the suspect on Soledad Canyon Road who fled from their partners on Wednesday, May 18, in Newhall, said Lt. Brandon Barclay, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

On Wednesday, May 18, deputies spotted a stolen vehicle on Oakridge Drive and Railroad Avenue in Newhall, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the SCV Sheriff’s Station at the time of the incident.

The suspect fled from deputies and a short pursuit ensued.

Deputies canceled the chase due to the suspect’s reckless driving.

Shortly after the pursuit, the suspect collided with several parked vehicles on Walnut Street just south of Lyons Avenue.

As a result of the crash, the suspect’s girlfriend became trapped in the wreckage, according to Arriaga.

After the crash, the suspect’s girlfriend told deputies she did not want to be in the vehicle with the driver prior to the pursuit and the crash occurred, resulting in him being wanted for kidnapping, Barclay said.

The suspect fled on foot and remained at-large until deputies spotted him Friday on the 27200 block of Soledad Canyon Road, Barclay said.

“He was spotted on a bike,” Barclay said.

The suspect complied and was taken into custody.

Oscar Castillo from Newhall was arrested for felony kidnapping and several other charges, Barclay added.

  1. Keep this bozo off our roads for several years. He’s not fit to mingle in today’s society.

  2. Hopefully she won’t walk back on her statement

  3. Bet Castillo stole the bike also!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
