A Bakersfield man is facing multiple felonies including child endangerment and his second felony DUI after driving intoxicated on the 5 Freeway in Valencia early Sunday morning, officials said.
On Sunday morning around 1 a.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office observed an individual exceeding the speed limit on the 5 Freeway near McBean Parkway, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Office.
When officers made contact with the suspect, he was showing signs of intoxication, Greengard said.
“(The suspect) is being charged with felony DUI, due to a prior felony DUI conviction,” Greengard said.
The suspect is also being charged for child endangerment after officers determined a minor to be in his vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
Fransisco Cruz, 30, from Bakersfield was arrested and charged with child endangerment and DUI, both felonies, according to Greengard.
Cruz was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $125,000, according to arrest records.
