Mother Arrested After Hitting Child Multiple Times In Castaic Grocery Store

A 21-year-old mother was arrested Sunday after she allegedly struck her child multiple times at a grocery store in Castaic.

On Sunday, the woman was observed by a witness hitting her child several times on the back while exiting a grocery store located at the 29600 block of The Old Road in Castaic, said Sgt. Joseph Mesa, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau.

“The witness followed the suspect and notified Sheriff deputies,” Mesa said.

The age of the child was not made available to the media.

Zakia Murphy, 21, from Los Angeles, was located by deputies and arrested for cruelty to a child, according to Mesa.

Murphy was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.

  1. I wonder if this woman started hitting her kid as she was shocked into rage after experiencing the high prices at this Kroger-owned Ralphs location? Just think what will happen if Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions merge with Ralphs/Food 4 Less! On the other hand, what was she doing in Castaic? Probably visiting friends and family at Pitchess?

Furthermore, people will have all kinds of rage as the prices continue to spiral up, up and up – Kroger has to pay for their proposed merger plus increased costs for the bargaining agreements. Who pays? We do!

I really don’t see the merger closing under the current terms. Rather, I expect Albertsons to close and sell a bunch of stores – Albertsons, Safeway, Vons and Pavilions throughout California and other states.

Kroger would like to pick-up some of these locations on the “open” market and add to their “pile” of stores already owned.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
