Nealie’s Skillet Owner Spots Burglary Suspect Weeks After Break-In, Calls Law Enforcement

The co-owner of Nealie’s Skillet was dropping her children off at school in Newhall Wednesday when she spotted a man that looked familiar.

When Haydee Scott got a little closer, she realized it was the suspect who was wanted for breaking into her Valencia restaurant only two weeks earlier.

“I knew I recognized him from somewhere,” Scott said. “It took me a second to place where I knew that face. It was the guy who broke in.”

Scott then went up to the suspect to get a closer look and take pictures in case the alleged perpetrator ran off.

“I felt really brave today,” Scott said. “Normally I would have never gone up to him, but for me it was personal. He damaged something we worked very hard to get.”

After Scott took photos, the suspect then ran off to the adjacent wash near Newhall Avenue and 15th Street.

“He hopped a fence and went into the wash. That is when I lost him,” Scott said.

The restaurant owner contacted law enforcement, prompting a search for the suspect in Newhall, according to Scott.

After a two-hour search, deputies located the suspect and took him into custody at gunpoint near Market Street and Railroad Avenue, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Officials later confirmed that the suspect from Wednesday’s arrest was connected to the reported burglary last month.

“He is being charged as a suspect in that crime,” Somoano said.

The name of the suspect is not available as of Monday afternoon.
