Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a family disturbance call at a home on Crestview Drive around 2 p.m., said Sgt. Brandon Barclay.

When one family member attempted to enter the house, another reportedly refused to let them in.

“The person (outside the) door said ‘I’m going to call the cops,’” said Barclay, “and walked back to their car.”

The person inside the house then allegedly walked outside with a silver pistol.

“A struggle over the firearm ensued,” said Barclay. “The victim was pistol-whipped.”

During the struggle, the firearm was thrown into a bush, where it was later recovered by deputies, unloaded.

“It was merely for intimidation,” said Barclay.

It was during this struggle that deputies pulled up to the scene.

“Deputies arrived to take control of the situation,” Barclay said. “One person was detained and one person was transported (to a local hospital).”
