Palmdale Man Arrested For Evading Police On 14 Freeway Near Santa Clarita

A Palmdale man was arrested nearly a week ago for allegedly evading CHP officers after traveling at high speeds on the 14 Freeway near the Santa Clarita Valley.

Around 2:50 A.M. on July 29, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Antelope Valley Area Officers observed a blue Infiniti Q50 sedan traveling southbound on State Route 14, north of Ward Street. The vehicle fit the description of a previous incident involving a blue Infiniti traveling at high speeds at the same location two weeks prior, according to Officer Andre Ortiz with the CHP Newhall Area Office.

On July 15 around 3:15 A.M., CHP Newhall Officers conducted an enforcement stop on the blue Infiniti, and the driver yielded off the freeway.

While sitting in his vehicle and speaking with officers, the suspect started his vehicle and fled. The CHP Officers pursued the vehicle before ending their involvement in the chase, said Ortiz.

Once the blue sedan was identified on July 29, the CHP Antelope Valley Area Officers notified the CHP Newhall Area Office. CHP Newhall Officers then intercepted the vehicle near Sand Canyon Road.

The CHP officer initiated an enforcement stop and identified 23-year-old Palmdale resident Anthony Ruiz as the same driver who fled from police on July 15. Ruiz was taken into custody without incident for evading a felon and resisting a peace officer, said Ortiz.
