Parolee Hospitalized After Resisting Arrest In Saugus

A no-bail parolee was hospitalized Friday after allegedly resisting law enforcement in Saugus, and is now facing multiple charges, officials said.

On Friday around 12 p.m., deputies responded to the 22500 block of Garzota Drive regarding a business disturbance call, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The call stated that a male adult was swinging a large stick, threatening the employees,” Miller said.

Upon making contact, deputies noticed the suspect had a strong odor of alcohol, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The suspect allegedly was uncooperative and combative with deputies, Miller said.

After a brief struggle, the suspect was sent to the hospital for injuries, according to officials on scene.

Christopher Mercurio, 48, of Granada Hills, was arrested on a felony charge of willfully resisting a peace officer; a drunk in public charge, a misdemeanor; and a parole violation felony, Miller said.

Mercurio was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station after being treated at the hospital and was given no bail, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
