A man was arrested after a short pursuit in Valencia Friday night after driving recklessly through western parts of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Around 11 p.m. Friday, an officer with the California Highway Patrol, (CHP) spotted a 2007 BMW 3 series on McBean Parkway at Alegro Drive with expired registration, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“Officers attempted to initiate an enforcement stop, but the driver failed to stop and made a U-turn and accelerated at upwards of 90 mph through city streets,” Greengard said.

Another CHP unit assisted in the chase.

The vehicle eventually pulled over at Lyons Avenue at the 5 Freeway, where the pursuit was terminated.

Erick Ochiyan, 20, from Newhall, was arrested for felony evading a police officer and his vehicle was impounded, Greengard added.

Ochiyan was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $75,000, according to arrest records.
