Reported Race Reaches Over 120 MPH On 14 Freeway, One Suspect In Custody

One person was arrested after an alleged street race on the 14 Freeway reportedly reached speeds over 120 mph Saturday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office observed an Infiniti and a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed on the northbound 14 Freeway near Sand Canyon Road, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP office.

CHP officers were able to stop one of the two vehicles involved, the Dodge Charger, and arrested its occupant, 20-year-old Perryon Jacobs, according to Greengard.

“These are public roadways and any of these freeways, whether the 5 or the 14, have a lot of vehicles on there, every one of which is driven by one person, typically with multiple passengers, and these actions put those people at risk,” said Greengard. “The people that use those freeways are our brothers, sisters, moms, dads, aunts and uncles, and at those speeds, any collision is definitely going to cause significant bodily harm, if not death.”

While the courts determine sentences, Jacobs can expect to receive a more substantial fine as a result of his alleged involvement in a race, as opposed to if he had been solely speeding at that level, according to Greengard.

In addition to his arrest, Jacobs’ vehicle was impounded for 30 days, according to Greengard.
